Some people talk about "falling in love" as if they were victims: like they had no choice in the matter.

Fact is, that isn't love at all. Just lust, or attraction, or infatuation.
Love is much more than that.
Love is "Let's work this out," and "I'm not giving up on us," and "I believe in you," and "What we have is worth fighting for."
It's not about falling, but of choosing and choosing again, each day, to make love a priority.
